CJ Maynard

Hello all!

My name is CJ Maynard, and I have been active in the local production community for almost 12 years now. My day job is working for a local production company, Perfect Image Video, where I perform all number of job duties, including Shooting, Editing, Authoring, Motion Graphics and Animation, not to mention a whole slew of not-that-interesting, more mundane tasks (like making DVD copies or transferring old family film). I have been with the company for 12 years now, and while there have been ups and downs throughout, I have no regrets. Working there has allowed me to embark into a fairly active freelance career as well.

I first discovered Blender 4 years ago, after fighting with a couple of low-priced, innefective 3D apps to try to increase my video toolset. I’m not even sure how I found Blender, but I did, I downloaded it, I felt quite confused and uninstalled it! About two months later, someone needed a simple 3D text effect, so back I went, fought through the tutorials, and here I am, a huge fan so many years later! Not only was the price not an issue, but the open-source mentality grew heavily on me, and now I try to support open-source in any way I can.

One way I go about doing that is hosting a community project, focused on the use of Blender for the purpose of online collaboration. This project can be found at www.openworldfilm.com, and is open to anyone who would like to be a member, regardless of skill level. I highly recommend joining if you’d like to be challenged and learn from others. One side note…”Open Projects” have received a bad rap due to the large number of poor proposals and failed attempts. The Open World Film Project has (as of this writing) the distinction of having just celebrated it’s 1 year anniversary, 4000th post and 60th member in the last two weeks! So we’ve been quite busy there. Feel free to stop by and sign up- we always welcome new people- also unusual in the webverse.
